Can a Father Murder his own daughter?

Today, 24th May, 2008 is a 14 year old's birthday and she would have been very happy over this. No one in this world would ever expect this to happen. How could this ever happen to such a young girl. Well i am talking about DPS Girl Aarushi Talvar, who every one now is aware of. It would have been the most luckiest day of her life but turned out the worst.

Our main topic of discussion here is can a father murder his own daughter. Its hard to imagine specially in India with such strong cultural and moral values. The Noida Police recently reported that Dr. Rajesh Talvar was behind the murder of his daughter and also the servant. But is it possible? The police has claimed it as an honour killing, but thinking logically its very hard to digest. Looking in history you will be amazed to know that this actually can happen. There is a recent case of England where a Muslim father murdered his 24 year old daughter owing to the affair she was having.

"A devout Muslim who murdered his 24-year-old daughter after discovering her "secret" boyfriend has been jailed for life.
Faqir Mohammed, 69, flew into a rage when he came home from evening prayer in June last year to find his daughter, Shahida Perveen Mohammed, with a boyfriend in her bedroom.
Manchester Crown Court heard Mohammed stabbed Shahida 19 times in the head and stomach.
Sentencing him, Mr Justice Field described it as a "dreadful crime" and only a sentence of life imprisonment was appropriate. Mohammed, was described in court as a "strict Muslim", and the defence tried to argue he had been provoked into murdering his daughter."

Another incident follows where a man murdered his daughter over an XBOX Console. "A man who played video games for hours each day has been convicted of killing his 17-month-old daughter when she pulled out his Xbox console." - SKY News. Yes, its very hard to digest but true. You might argue that most of these were based outside India so its inapporiate of compare the cases with this one.

Let us look into the detail, according to me its very hard to digest Aarushi having an affair with a 45 year old man Hemraj who has children and grandchildren. Its not easy to visualize this fact even though in India we have a history with affairs with caretakers or servants. In this case its simple not possible. Another fact that has been brought is that Dr. Rajesh Talvar was having an affair with his colleague and that Hemraj was trying to blackmail. But even if Hemraj and Aarushi knew about this. Can you justify killing your daughter if you have a extra marital affair. Why would he kill only his daughter and servant and not his wife. The Noida Police(already slow in solving cases) is unable to answer these questions.

A news channel also reported that Dr. Rajesh Talvar is linked to be Mayawati(in case if you dont know she is currently UP's Cheif Minister) and tried to cover up things with the police. But what happened now. Was there a negotiation problem? Is the police so lost and so poor in solving such cases. If it is so what is the use of police then. There is no answer for this.

We can just analyse that owing to the pressure from media and state government to find a possible solution, the police had no choice but to declare Dr. Rajesh a murdered with very vague evidences. Even if he confesses in court that he was the one who committed this shocking act its very hard to digest.

The truth is there with the murdered and God.....Today being Aarushi's birthday, I would like to wish her whereever she is....May your soul Rest In Peace.....and may the real culprits be brought in public for committing this brutal crime.

Based on the publicly available information thus far, it's not clear to me whether the Talwar case is a dishonor killing case.

But I hope justice is served.

To answer the question in your caption. . .yes. It happens every day in this world.
