Those Rs 985

Well not much of a big amount but when you are using that same amount on a taxi fare it may seem a bit too much. Specially when you are just 21 and are pretty much used to Public Buses and to add to the icing of the cake, you are in Delhi with almost no luggage!!!!

Yes, I did spend that same amount which could easily be used to buy a Levis jeans, or maybe some t shirts or just about a nice gift for someone. Well 985 that’s me… lol. No seriously speaking at the first place its not my fault.

It all started with my trip back to Delhi from Chennai, after spending holidays with my parents. I had a wonderful time over there except that it was a bit too hot (saying this despite being a Delhi-ite). Well I had to book a flight to return here since its 2005 kms and even a Rajdhani takes nothing less than about 36 hours. Well had a wonderful flight although did not meet anyone new(which I mostly do in a journey). Well right after I landed got to know that the outside temperature is 9 degrees celcius.. This brought a smile on my face..to many it would give a shiver but I was happy that I was finally back…far away from that hot place..

Well moving back to where I was, although I do spend a lot but only when I find it worth it. I may spend a 180 on a coffee but at least that makes me smile. The whole idea started with a small conversation with dad regarding my travel back to Delhi. When asked about how I plan to go to the flat(which is in Greater Noida), I took 10 minutes to just think about it. I finally answered by saying I ll take a bus. I don’t know if it was a joke or something (as a matter of fact…bus and jokes…God). Anyways.. he asked me so are you seriously. Tell me how will you go, explain me the journey I said I ll go to Dhaula Kuan then take a bus to noida and then to greater noida and then another bus and then walk from there. My dad said “Son, don’t you think you have used too many then’s in the statement and its very incorrect. Well what could I even do, there was nothing I could say. He said now its final you will take a cab from the airport and I have arranged it.

Well here I am, writing it down at least it does have a value… Rs 985 on a cab for just about 70 kms…not at all justified. But it was enough to make me realize how comfortable I am and how uncomfortable people of india are living below poverty line. It did give me a true idea about how valuable money is… maybe this is a lesson to learn about the value of money. It took just about an hour to finish off those Rs 985 which for some takes about a month to earn(even today in India). For the very first time I noticed each and every beggar on the street…right from the ones who sell toys at red lights to the beggars…and those who live on the roads. I noticed each one of them and every time I saw them I learned how life is and the game of destiny.

Well people learn a lot in life through experiences and I am one of them too. It took my close to Rs 1000 to realize the value of money, the beggars on the street and the game of destiny. How just you birth can change your fortune and your living.

In the end… I would say it was a comfortable expensive pleasant jouney… had it been a Merc or a Lamborghini I would have been happy to pay. But those two 500 rupee notes were just not meant for anything else. I was just realizing how this journey for a normal human being would have taken nothing more than Rs 50 (at most).

At last I would just thank God for making me realize the value of money.

And last but not the least my parents for this…..
